What Comes In The Box?

tool_box.jpg (52936 bytes)Did you ever purchase something thinking that everything you needed was “in the box” only to find when you got it home that everything wasn’t in the box? At Vanmark we try to think of things from our customer’s viewpoint and try to anticipate his/her needs.

That is why we ship a toolbox with every one of our peeler orders. The toolbox isn’t huge, nor does it contain a huge number of items. However, it does contain just about everything that is needed to do routine servicing of the peeler. A few items are unique, like the tools for changing shafts. But most are common tools which could be purchased at a local hardware store.

So why don’t we just include the special tools and let our customers supply the rest? Because we want to be sure that everything you need is “in the box” when you buy your Vanmark equipment. It’s part of the value you have come to expect from Vanmark and we want to keep it that way.

Conversion from the High Cost of Hydraulics

Before the development and widespread adoption of variable speed motor technology, hydraulic drives were commonly used in some types of food processing equipment, especially peeling and washing equipment.

Today, for several very sound reasons many plant operators wish they didn’t have to deal with the disadvantages of hydraulics in certain equipment. In this article we are not trying to knock hydraulics. Hydraulic systems aren't inherently bad and in some applications are the best solution.  However, sometimes the application of hydraulics has not been the best.   continued ...

Maintenance Tip!   One of the problems with bearings that require lubrication is that people often tend to over lubricate them.  If one pump is good, three or even five must be better!  In most instances, no.  Not only is over lubrication wasteful of both labor and grease, but can sometimes result in  overheating, and often to product contamination.  Best advice:  Develop a proper Preventative Maintenance (PM) program then train operators and maintenance personnel to follow the rules.

It's Not Just a Clever Name

From time to time, you may have seen the term “The Shape of Things to Come” used in our publications and on our website. This is not just a clever phrase for advertising or marketing. It is a purposeful, visible theme in our development efforts.

It is a design criteria that you can see at work in many of our latest projects and products. For example, when we recently manufactured storage bins for a plant operated by a major snack supplier, we used concepts of the “Shape of Things to Come” to redesign the bin bases. The result: not only do the bases look better, they will accumulate less dirt and debris and be much easier to clean.  Note the angled fillers along the lower edge of the sidewalls to allow dirt to simply slide off.

You can see a similar influence in our Series 1100 Floor Load Crate Dumper. Notice the use of round tubing and angled surfaces. This reduces the number of horizontal surfaces where unsanitary material can build up and makes sanitation much easier and faster.

Of course, the best example is our newly designated 2900 Series Peeler, now in the final stages of real-world production testing in a potato chip facility.  Several other products are either on the production floor now or in final stages of design.

What it means to you, is the value of a cleaner plant, better efficiency, and perhaps even a bit more “modern” look.

Small Capacity Peeler Debuts at Mexico Expo

Last month we announced the retirement of our venerable Series 2500 line of peel/washers.  This included our small capacity model used by many customers in the fresh produce market and by those not needing the capacity of a full sized peeler/washer.

Recognizing there is a continuing need for this type of equipment, Vanmark went back to the drawing board.  What resulted was a new small capacity model within the 2600 Series.
